New Orleans Original Daiquiris left their longtime location at Lakeside Shopping Center but they’ve found a new spot to set up shop. Construction has started on their new building in the 4200 block of Veterans Blvd. near Clearview Center.
From a rendering shared by Metairie-based Mouton Long Turner Architects, the new building will have a much more modern vibe than most daiquiri shops.
Swamp Room is getting the boot from their current location but they’ll soon be landing at a long-vacant Metairie strip mall. The new Swamp Room location will open later this year at the corner of Veterans Blvd. and Green Acres Rd. just down the street from their previous location. Regulars will have to wait until fall to get their Swamp Burger fix.
In February we reported that Conn’s HomePlus will be taking over the former Rouse’s space in the 5200 block of Veterans Blvd. A new outparcel building is currently being constructed on the corner of the property. According to permit filings the new building will be home to Starbucks and a dental office.
Work has begun to bring Northern Tool to the former Babies R Us space on Veterans near David Drive. The retailer offers light industrial equipment and supplies for do-it-yourselfers. Products include tools, tarps, pressure washers & air compressors. While Northern Tool has over 100
Bucktown, largely dominated by seafood restaurants, will soon be home to Mama Thai. The restaurant will be taking over the space which was most recently home to Smoke House Grill and probably best known as Carmine’s pre-Veterans Blvd. location.
Z Gallerie, a national home decor & furniture retailer, opened a store this past June at Lakeside Shopping Center. The company entered chapter 11 bankruptcy last month and announced that some of their stores would close as a result. The Lakeside location is currently liquidating inventory and is slated to close later this month.
Salad Station, a build your own salad concept, is opening two East Jefferson stores in the coming months. The Metairie location will take over the former Smoothie King & Kupcake Factory spaces at 909 Veterans Blvd. While the Kenner location is coming to 2321 West Esplanade.
The company originated in Hammond and is now expanding regionally and out of state. A Salad Station representative told Around Metairie that a Downtown New Orleans location will also open later this year.
Michaels, a national retailer of art supplies, crafts & framing, is closing their Elmwood Shopping Center location at 1200 S. Clearview Pkwy
This does not affect other Michaels stores in the area. The retailer opened a new store at the corner of Edenborn Ave. & Veterans Blvd. in a former Office Depot late last year.
Friends of the Jefferson Public Library will hold a book sale this weekend at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner. The organization is planning to offer over 65,000 items including books, puzzles, DVDs and more with most being priced under $3.00. Cash and credit cards are accepted. Parking and admission
