Beef Jerky Outlet at 3017 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie announced that this Saturday will be their final day open. They are currently offering specials on remaining inventory and fixtures are being offered for sale.

According to permit filings submitted to Jefferson Parish a retail location for New Balance shoes is planned for the former Payless Shoe Source location at 3141 Veterans Blvd. Contractors have been on site recently starting to make the transformation.
New Balance operates both standard and factory outlet stores. The company has an outlet location at the Riverwalk. The nearest standard store is located at Baton Rouge’s Town Center at Cedar Lodge development. We have not seen any official word on the format for this location however we would expect it to be a standard store.
A new festival is planned for September 6-8, 2019 on the grounds of the Jefferson Performing Arts Center and LaSalle park next to the Shrine on Airline to kick off the 2019 football season. Festival organizers are planning concerts alongside an offering of food, beverages, and crafts.
VIP tickets will be sold as well with exclusive concert offerings from The Guess Who and Blood, Sweat & Tears for the VIP holders.

The recently closed Dunkin’ Donuts at 2240 Veterans Blvd. in Kenner will soon be home to a new outlet for PJ’s Coffee. The new location will feature a drive-thru in addition to the walk-in coffee shop.

We confirmed over the weekend with the Chick-fil-A at 3870 Veterans Blvd. in Metairie that they would be adding mac & cheese to their menu starting today. According to a press release from Chick-fil-A it is part of a nationwide rollout. The chicken purveyor tells us that it is “a classic macaroni and cheese recipe, featuring a special blend of cheeses including cheddar, parmesan and Romano. It is baked in restaurant each day.”

Joann (formerly Jo-Ann Fabrics) will be moving into the former Gordon’s space at 725 Veterans Memorial Blvd. They currently operate a smaller store a few blocks down Veterans and another Veterans store near David Dr. The national retailer recently went through a rebranding to focus not just on fabrics but also to showcase products to compete with companies like Michael’s and Hobby Lobby.
There is no word yet on when the store will open. The Wilshire Shopping Center property has seen a bit of a resurgence over the past few years with the addition of several new retailers including a new Jason’s Deli which is scheduled to open later this year.
Seasonal operator Spirit Halloween has set up shop at 7060 Veterans Blvd. near the corner of David Dr. They’ve taken over the space recently vacated by Gordon’s. The company also plans on opening a store later this month in the former Kmart space at 1400 S. Clearview Pkwy.
The Salad Station has opened its newest location at 909 Veterans Memorial Blvd. at the former Smoothie King & The Kupcake Factory location. The Northshore based growing chain offers salads, soups, and baked potatoes.
Shake Shack opened today at Severn & Veterans to a large crowd which extended well beyond the entrance of the building. We’re expecting that the crowd will only grow this weekend as many locals get their chance to try the burgers, hot dogs and shakes for the first time. This is Shake Shack’s first location in Louisiana with other locations in development for the new airport and downtown New Orleans.
Metairie will now have one less choice when it comes to sweet treats. Sucré announced earlier today that they are shuttering their operations which includes their outpost at Lakeside Shopping Center. The New Orleans based company blamed a failure to find “financial profitability” as the cause for the sudden closure.
